East Coast Hockey League

POWERADE CENTRE
BRAMPTON, ONTARIO
BRAMPTON BEAST

OHL hockey did not do all that well here in Brampton,
a suburban bedroom community outside of Metro
Toronto. The arena is located in the middle of a vast
parking lot which abuts divided highways, with little to
see or do close by. This is the only Canadian based
team currently playing in the ECHL.

WESBANCO ARENA
WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA
WHEELING NAILERS

Downtown Wheeling is a bit dog eared, dreary and
depressing, with good building stock screaming for
new investment. The coolest thing about Wesbanco
Arena is the concourse, with not only abundant
displays of hockey memorabilia from around the
state, but alos a great deal of historical markers
celebrating the history of West Virginia and its role as
a gateway to the West.

NORFOLK SCOPE
NORFOLK, VIRGINIA
NORFOLK, ADMIRALS

A 70s era venue located right on the periphery of
downtown and close to hotels, shopping and area
attractions, the arena itself is set in the middle of a
cold, uninviting and spartan pedestrian plaza. Right
next door is a symphony concert hall as well as an
exhibition hall, all connected via a massive
underground parking garage. Single concourse and
seating for about 9000 fans for hockey. Yes this was
once the home of the ABA Virginia Squires!

SNHU ARENA
MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE
MANCHESTER, MONARCHS

Distinct and dramatic architecture is the hallmark of
this arena, with its gently sloped saddle shaped roof
and glass facade main entry. The seating bowl here
is two levels, tan colored seats and bright and
sparkling tiled concourses. Since opening this new
venue in 2001, Manchester fans have really taken to
the AHL, leading the league in attendance in 2004
and 2005. Nice downtown location with major hotels
and wide choice of restaurants within easy walking
distance. Manchester's new AA baseball park is also
now open, along the river about 1/2 mile away from
the arena.

COOL INSURING ARENA
GLEN FALLS, NEW YORK
ADIRONDACK THUNDER

Located amidst a quaint and charming downtown
core of beautiful older buildings, the Glens Falls Civic
Center has seen great AHL moments in the past.
Former home of the Adirondack Red Wings, they won
four Calder Cups here, and although they have not
made the playoffs since the Phantoms located here
in 2008, the fan support remains intact. The team
relocates to the Lehigh Valley area in the 2014-15
season.

SILVERSTEIN EYE CENTERS ARENA
INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI
MISSOURI MAVERICKS

An elegant structure located in the back end of a
shopping plaza, what was once called the
Independence Events Center is actually a good
hockey crowd draw just a few miles outside of
Kansas City, Missouri. Ticket prices and concessions
very expensive. The city is the birthplace of former
President Harry Truman.

US BANK ARENA
CINCINNATI, OHIO
CINCINNATI CYCLONES

Cincinnati's downtown arena is major league sized,
once housed their old WHA team in the 70s, and
remains extremely functional even after all these
years. One odd quirk... Baseball great Pete Rose has
his #14 "retired" here and hanging in the rafters,
amongst several recognizable hockey players.

DCU CENTER --- WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS
WORCESTER
RAILERS

This arena opened in 1982, and is attached to a
gleaming newer convention center right next door,
and sits amidst a clean and bustling downtown core
with hotels, offices and retail all within easy walking
distance. The building itself is a single concourse
design with access to upper and lower seating
decks.
USRT visited this venue for the AHL Worcester
Sharks in 2007

INDIANA FARMERS COLISEUM
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA
INDY FUEL

Indianapolis actually has a long and storied hockey
history through various minor league iterations...
Gretzky, Messier, Hasek all played here. This
wonderful, barrel shaped ceiling arena is located on
the Indiana State Fair fairgrounds, beautifully
remodeled and restored and offering a superb game
night experience.
  FORMER VENUES

FIRST ARENA
ELMIRA, NEW YORK
ELMIRA JACKALS

Elmira's downtown arena is located in a dynamic
historic setting, with tributes to Mark Twain, the Civil
War and other markings and attractions in
abundance. This is a two rink arena, with the 4000
seat feature rink ringed by suites and an end zone
restaurant. the seating bowl is done in Elmira College
Soaring Eagles purple. but college hockey is played a
few miles away in the Domes. The Jackals ceased
operations following the 2016-17 season.

SOVEREIGN BANK ARENA
TRENTON, NEW JERSEY
TRENTON DEVILS

The ECHL no longer plays in Trenton, but what is now
called the Sun National Bank Center seat almost
8000 for hockey, and has also been the host for NCAA
mens basketball subregionals and the MAAC
basketball tournament. The venue is located right in
heart of downtown Trenton.
SPHL
FORMER VENUES

MISSISSIPPI COAST COLISEUM
BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI
MISSISSIPPI SURGE

The building was a home venue for the ECHL for a
good number of years before departing. The
independent Surge then played here from 2009 to
2014 before relocating to Roanoke, VA due to
declining fan support. Basic brutalist 70s venue with
too large a seating bowl and capacity for minor
league hockey.
